About Antioch Education Abroad

Our study abroad programs serve Antioch University students and qualified students from over 140 institutions nationally. In 2012, one-third of all students participating in AEA programs came from the top 25 colleges or universities in the U.S., as ranked by U.S. News and World Report.

Since the 1950s, Antioch Education Abroad (AEA) has been a pioneer in global education, offering cultural immersion, rigorous academic courses and unique, hands-on learning opportunities for our students around the world. Our students become active participants in today’s interconnected world.  AEA  is an integral component of  Antioch University  (AU), a visionary academic community composed of five campuses.

Why Choose AEA?

From Buddhist Studies in India to Arts and Culture in West Africa, we offer unique study abroad programs in Africa, Asia, South America, and Europe that allow students to explore their academic fields of interest internationally. On-site are AEA faculty, who are experts in their respective fields, that teach and mentor students as they explore diverse academic interests.  AEA  faculty and staff make a special effort to personalize the study abroad experience for each student, and make the connection between theory and practice clear. Our students engage in one-on-one apprenticeships, internships with NGO’s or grassroots organizations and design and implement field study projects abroad.

In our programs, students embark on a transformative learning experience that enhances their potential and purpose as scholars and globally conscious citizens. Our students learn new perspectives, build cross-cultural competency and make connections that will influence them and their careers in the years to come.

Admissions and Governance

Our study abroad programs serve AU students and are open to qualified students from any college or university in the United States and abroad. They are also an integral part of the  BA in Liberal Studies Program, offered in collaboration between AU Seattle and  AEA. This gifted and diverse student demographic contributes tremendous talent, enthusiasm and vibrancy to our programs.

AEA  is included in AU’s academic governance system and is led by AU’s  dean of international education. Full-time  AEA and additional AU faculty make up AEA’s Academic Council, which oversees the curriculum of all  AEA  programs and the assessment of student learning outcomes.
