Overlooking the Green Court Residence

During the Community Development in Cameroon program, students reside at the Green Court Residence, an extended stay hotel near the University of Buea. At the Green Court Residence, each unit, which consists of one or two bedrooms, contains a sitting room, a kitchenette, a bathroom, and individual bedrooms. Each unit also comes with a mosquito net, television, and dishes and silverware.

The Green Court Residence has a friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff who want to make your experience in Cameroon as pleasant as possible. They are always available to answer questions, resolve any issues that may arise with your room, or share their views on local issues. The proprietor ensures each student has his cell phone number so they may reach him 24 hours a day. Green Court is a very safe hotel with access restricted to residents and their guests, and a night guard who monitors the complex after dark.

We often take our lunch and dinner at Green Court. Students are able to request nearly any meal they can imagine for which the ingredients are available in Buea. Some of the typical favorites include fried plantains with black beans, peanut sauce with rice, spaghetti and tomato sauce, and Cameroonian specialties such as ndole, fufu with okra soup, and cassava. Various meats such as fish, chicken, and beef are also available. In addition to Green Court, students may also take some meals at the staff cantine on the University of Buea campus. A weekly stipend is provided for breakfast. Students may purchase eggs, potatoes, fruits, and pastries to store and prepare in their kitchenette.

Most student diets can be accommodated, and we regularly have vegetarian and vegan students on this program. However, we encourage you to discuss any dietary restrictions with AEA prior to the start of the program so we may plan accordingly.
