Reuben Harris, Ph.D (Antioch University graduate)

Harris joined the board in 2001 ex officio as president of the Antioch College Alumni Association.  He was elected to the board in 2003.  Reuben is a 1969 graduate of Antioch College, earning his B.S. in Engineering.  His M.B.A. is from the University of Rochester and his Ph.D. in Business (Organizational Behavior) from Stanford University.

Harris has spent most of his career in academia studying, writing, and teaching about the dynamics of organizations undergoing change and about the factors which contribute to successful change strategies.  He has served on the faculties of the University of California (Berkeley), Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the Naval Postgraduate School (Monterey, CA). Harris was also an International Senior Lecturer at the Irish Management Institute in Dublin, Ireland, from 1980 to 1991. He co-authored the book, Organizational Transitions:  Managing Complex Change, and has authored numerous articles for academic and professional journals. He has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Applied Behavioral Science and the Academy of Management Review.

In 2001, Harris left his position as Dean of the Graduate School of Management and Public Policy at the Naval Postgraduate School to become Vice Chairman of C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc., one of the largest grocery wholesalers in the U.S.  His other experiences outside of academia include a six-year stint as Vice President of Research and Development with The Tom Peters Group in Palo Alto, CA, from 1985-1991.  Additionally, since 1971 he has also been an Organization and Management Consultant to a number of organizations in industry, health care, and education.  Some of his clients have included:  AT&T, Apple Computer, California Department of Justice, General Electric, Hewlett-Packard, Procter and Gamble, U.S. National Institutes of Health, and the U.S. Postal Service.

Harris was elected to the Antioch College Alumni Association Board of Directors in 1995 and served as the Association’s Vice President (1999-2001) and then as President (2001-2003), serving as an ex-officio member of the Antioch University Board of Trustees during that time.
