Student Loan Funding: All Is Well

This is an unsettling time financially on many levels. We want to assure our students, both current and prospective, that we are closely monitoring the student loan market, and believe that Stafford and Graduate PLUS loans will be funded well into the future. Several actions, taken recently, contribute to our confidence:

1. Early this month, President Bush signed an act to extend H.R. 6889 – Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans, or ESCALA. ESCALA will help to insulate the student loan market from many of the problems that other financial markets are experiencing.

2. The bill signed by Congress on October 3 to bail out the financial markets included a protection of the tuition tax credits through the 2009-2010 academic year.

3. The lenders that we do the majority of our student loan business with assure us that they intend to continue funding student loans.

4. There are numerous higher education organizations with offices and lobbyists in Washington, working hard daily to protect higher education funding, among them the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. Antioch has maintained membership and connections with NASFAA, and other higher education associations for many years.
