William R. Groves
While Bill has served as General Counsel for just over a year he has a long history of representation of Antioch University.
A 1979 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Law, Bill joined the firm of Martin, Browne, Hull & Harper, PLL, in Springfield, Ohio. Partners of that firm had been members of the board of trustees of Antioch College (now Antioch University) and had represented the College and University for many years.
As outside counsel, Bill provided legal services to the University throughout his thirty year career at the firm in the areas of employment litigation, labor-management relations and student rights and responsibilities. In 2007, Bill became lead University Counsel for the University succeeding his partner David Weaver, who had functioned in that role for over thirty-five years.
After leading Antioch University through its separation from the College, he was asked to form the Office of General Counsel in October, 2010.
Beyond his work for Antioch University, Bill has a wide variety of experience in representing non-profit organizations, hospitals, colleges, universities, school boards, and municipalities as well as for-profit entities. He has also served as an officer and board member of numerous charitable organizations.
He is the father of two adult children and now lives with his partner, Joel, in Springfield, Ohio, where he enjoys his outdoor passions of gardening, running and cycling. In his “spare time” he coaches local high school mock trial teams to nurture their understanding of Constitutional law concepts.
