William R. Groves
Bill was hired by the University in October, 2010 to form its first Office of General Counsel. Prior to then, he had been outside University Counsel as a partner in the law firm of Martin, Browne, Hull & Harper, PLL, located in Springfield, OH. The firm had a long history of involvement with Antioch. Partners of that firm had been members of the board of trustees of Antioch College (now Antioch University) and had represented the College and University for many decades. Bill provided legal services to the University throughout his thirty year career at the firm.
In 2007, Bill became the lead counsel responsible for representing the University in its efforts to discontinue operations of the college. He thereafter led the negotiations for an asset transfer to the newly formed corporation established by a group of College alumni to begin operations as an independent institution.
Beyond his work for Antioch University, Bill has a wide variety of experience in representing non-profit organizations, hospitals, colleges, universities, school boards, and municipalities as well as for-profit entities. He has also served as an officer and board member of numerous charitable and non-profit organizations.

He is the father of two adult children, has two grand-children and now lives with his partner, Joel, in Springfield, Ohio, where he enjoys his outdoor passions of gardening, running and cycling. For the past several years, he has coached high school mock trial teams to nurture their understanding of the legal system generally, and Constitutional law concepts specifically, In 2013, his team advanced to the State competition in Ohio.
