Symposium on Latino Mental Health, Education, and Community Engagement
Antioch University Santa Barbara presents a 5-event symposium exploring research, education, and cultural competence to reduce disparities in education and mental health service delivery in Latino communities. Faculty and practitioner-scholars from our Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology will share their research, knowledge, ideas, and expertise in matters related to the intersection of Latino/a mental health, education, and community engagement.

Who should attend?
Community members are welcome to attend, as well as students and interns. The symposium is ideal for therapists, clinicians, counselors, teachers, school-based mental health professionals, school district executives, graduate school professors, social workers, psychologists, and allied health care disciplines. CE hours are available.

William Flores, PhD. AUSB Provost, Past President University of Houston, President of the Board of Directors of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, researcher, published author, professor.
Marianne D’Emidio Caston, EdD. Chair and Core Faculty Graduate Education and Credentialing Programs AUSB, professor.
Emilio Handall, EdD. Superintendent Vista Del Mar Unified School District, Principal Vista Del Mar School, and Award Winning Teacher.
Miguel Gallardo, PsyD. Fellow of the American Psychological Association, Past President of the California Psychological Association, Founding Member of the California Latino Psychological Association, second-term Governor appointed by the California Board of Psychology, scholar, and widely published author, faculty Pepperdine University.
Andres Consoli, PhD. Associate Professor of Psychology Dept. of Counseling, Clinical and School Psychology, Past President of the National Latino Psychological Association, and current NLPA Delegate to the Council of National Psychology Associations for the Advancement of Ethnic Minority Interests, researcher, author of numerous scientific articles on Latino mental health
Stephen Razo, MA. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an advanced doctoral candidate with AUSB’s PsyD Program. Mr. Razo is a scholar-practitioner focusing on the psychodynamic conceptualizations of Latino mental health and community engagement.
Leticia Real, MA. Credentialed elementary school teacher focuses on parent involvement, Latino immigration, Dreamer psychology, engagement with Latino communities.
Josefina Cabrera, MA. Credentialed elementary school teacher will focus on the narrative of Latino families and immigrants, academic achievement, and the various stressors of Latino immigrants. Emily Maynard, PhD. Post Doc advanced candidate at UCSB Hosford Clinic, will discuss the treatment of Latino men struggling with alcoholism and drug abuse.
Gary Delanoeye, EdD. Faculty Graduate Education and Credentialing Programs AUSB, professor, former special education teacher and vice principal for the California Youth Authority, expert in education of special populations, teacher research, cooperative learning, delinquency prevention.
Gustavo Arellano. Journalist, award winning columnist, published author, Editor of the Orange County Weekly, social commentator
Salvador Treviño, PhD. Core faculty AUSB, Secretary of the California Psychological Association Division VII Social Justice and Diversity.
Rut Gubkin, PhD. Chair of California Psychological Association Division VII Social Justice/Diversity, Lead Psychologist Alameda County Emergency Response Team.
Erika Noriega, PhD. Psychologist with Kaiser Permanente, notable expert in Latina psychology and interracial couples.
Cost & CE hours
This event is free for anyone not receiving Continuing Education hours. Community members are welcome to attend.
Continuing Education (4 hours) for MFTs and psychologists are available for $30 per event. In order to receive CE credit, participants must attend all 4 hours per event. Students attend free.
- $30 for 4 CE hours per each event
- $150 for 20 CE hours for attending all five symposia
Antioch University Santa Barbara (AUSB) is approved by the California Psychological Association (CPA) to provide continuing professional education for psychologists. The California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) now recognizes CPA continuing education credit for renewal of all of their licenses. AUSB maintains responsibility for this program and its contents.
