Historical and Educational Civil Rights Tour | Jan 2-5, 2020

January 2, 2020 - January 5, 2020

Organized each year by BA Faculty Emeritus, Mary Lou Finley, the tour allows students to engage firsthand in the history of the civil rights movement. Students return transformed and ready to engage in social and community justice work.

Tour Highlights:

  • Atlanta, Georgia: The Historical King Center Complex and Center for Civil and Human Rights
  • Birmingham, Alabama: The 16th Street Baptist Church where the KKK bombed and killed four young black students. Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and Kelly Ingram Park
  • Montgomery, Alabama: Transatlantic and domestic slave history at the Legacy Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice
  • Tuscaloosa, Alabama: Orientation of “Blood Tuesday”
  • Philadelphia, Mississippi: Chocktaw Native American Reservation Museum and understand the “Trail of Tears,” pay homage to murdered civil rights workers Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman, and James Chaney

Tour Cost

$496 per person (does not include airfare), $200 non-refundable deposit due 10/2/18; balance due 12/9/19. Make check or money order payable to DDK Tours, mail to 3996 Brookside Parkway, Decatur, GA 30034. Include your name, address, phone number, and email.

Cost Includes

Transportation from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Atlanta, GA. (Pick up 10:00 am on 1/2/20 and return 1/5/20 at 4:00 pm): 3 nights’ hotel accommodation (double occupancy) and breakfast, tour manual, luxury bus ground transportation (as listed in itinerary), museum fees, speaker honorariums, and expert Kingian Nonviolence Analysis. Cost does not include airfare.
