Anne Maxham, PhD
Director of Writing, AU Virtual Writing Center
Anne is an educator with over 35 years of educational experience all reflecting her deep interest and commitment to supporting student writers. Her research interests are in composition, adult learning and writing apprehension, and writing communities. Anne began her career as a high school English teacher, moving into the community college teaching, and later at the university level. Anne joined Antioch University Seattle in 2000 as a founding faculty member of the Bachelor of Arts with Teacher Certification Program (BATP), a program that acutely reflected Antioch’s social justice mission in educating para-educators in the Puget Sound region. While teaching in this program, she developed a writing center for all Antioch Seattle students, which evolved into the campus’s Center for Teaching and Learning. Since 2010, Anne has designed and directed writing support to all AU students through developing the AU Virtual Writing Center. Anne is now working on another project in expanding writing classes and program offerings through the VWC as well as providing editing, coaching, and training to student, business professionals, and English language learners.
