Antioch University Recognized by LearningCounts
Through their Featured Network Partner Spotlight, LearningCounts, a division of The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL), highlights the great work and effort that partners put into their work each and every day. In January 2018, LearningCounts wrote:
“We would like to recognize Antioch University for the great success and growth they have seen in [undergraduate] student portfolios. Antioch is currently the only LearningCounts partner to have a 100% portfolio credit recommended rate for a partner institution who has at least 10 portfolios submitted so far this year. The LearningCounts program at Antioch is led by Karen Crist, who while wearing many hats at Antioch, remains passionate about PLA. This passion is showing in the success of her LearningCounts students. Congratulations to Karen and the Antioch team, and keep up the great work!”
Launched with adding the PLA1000 course to the AU catalogs on three campuses (AUM, AUSB, and AUO) in January 2016, the program continues to grow. Since the inception of the program, 19 students have taken PLA1000, and over 21 portfolios have been submitted for assessment –with a 99.95% pass rate and a total of 73 semester credits earned!
Success of the program is due in no small part to the collaborative efforts of the UG program faculty, advisors, registrar team, and the PLA Coordinator. AND our terrific students! A key component is a unique, two-phase, advising process that supplements the hands-on academic advising of the UG programs. Advisors discuss transfer credit within the context of the student’s degree plan, and once approved for further transfer credit, the student has a required advising session with Karen Crist to review the online course format, portfolio development process, verification of learning through appropriate documentation, a review of suitable coursework.
