African Americans and Jungian Psychology: Leaving the Shadows

This lecture/discussion will focus on the relationship between African Americans and Jungian Psychology. It will explore the historical events between Jung, Americans and the establishment of Analytical Psychology in the beginning days of Psychoanalysis. In our discussion, we will seek to understand the need for a multicultural approach in all American psychologies including Jungian psychology.

Fanny Brewster, PhD, MFA, is a Jungian analyst and writer in private practice. She is a lecturer and workshop presenter on Jungian related topics to a wide range of audiences. She will be an opening speaker at the International Association for Jungian Studies Conferences (IAJS) in Cape Town, South Africa, Summer, 2017. Dr. Brewster is a writer of poetry and nonfiction. Her nonfiction book, African Americans and Jungian Psychology: Leaving the Shadows is forthcoming by Routledge Publishing. She will be the featured poet in the forthcoming edition of Psychological Perspectives. She is a faculty member at Pacifica Graduate Institute, the Philadelphia Association of Jungian Analysts and the New York C.G. Jung Foundation
