The Parenting Process
May 19, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 5:00 pm PDT
The Child Specialization Spring Speaker Series Presents The Parenting Process with Eileen Paris, PhD.
In spite of the best intentions, parents tend to repeat the very injuries they promise themselves they will never pass on. Like most promises, this one is a lot easier to make than to keep. Learn how to follow through on this promise.
This workshop is designed for:
- Parents, new or experienced, living together, separated, divorced, or who live in alternatively-structured families and want to have warmer, deeper relationships with their children.
- All disciplines of the mental health profession.
Most parents want help with their children’s behavior. In addressing behavioral problems, it is essential to first understand the meanings that underlie children’s intentions and actions. When we attune and attend to those meanings and to the emotions of our children, meeting their needs, their behavior changes because the family system changes, as do our relationships. So, we all benefit.
There are two parts to the Parenting Process:
THE FIRST PART, referred to as the Legacy, helps parents understand their own “tender spots.” Parents who recognize when their child is “poking” a tender spot and know what to do about it are much more able to interrupt difficult relationship patterns and prevent them from repeating.
THE SECOND PART of the Parenting Process is referred to as Understanding Emotional Development. This section explores the themes of bonding, mirroring, and differentiating and helps parents develop the skills to actualize healthy relationships.
This workshop includes experiential exercises, lecture, and of course questions and answers!
