DESCRIPTION:***Exploring Specializations in Clinical Practice | Treating Trauma and Addiction*** \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a live\, faculty-led online workshop exploring how trauma and addiction intersect in clinical practice on Thursday\, June 25\, 2026 (5:00 PM - 6:00 PM PDT). This interactive session will introduce a clinically significant case study\, real-world applications\, and potential career paths within these critical areas of Psychotherapy. Whether you are considering a future in Clinical Psychology or have already been admitted\, this is an opportunity to learn directly from faculty\, ask questions\, and deepen your understanding of specialization options within the field. \n\n\n\n*Workshop Objectives* \n\n\n\nAfter participating in this workshop\, you should be able to:     • Describe the relationship between trauma and addiction     • Identify stuck points in psychotherapy due to unresolved trauma or addictive behaviors; and     • Discuss why an integrative treatment approach is needed. \n\n\n\n*Biographical Sketch* \n\n\n\nDr. Stephen Southern is a psychologist\, marriage and family therapist\, and clinical counselor who has specialized in concurrent treatment of trauma and addiction\, especially in couples affected by childhood adversity\, abuse\, or catastrophic events. He began his career as a Certified Sexuality Therapist (AASECT) and learned that many problems with intimacy and sexuality could be traced back to traumatic life events. \n\n\n\nStephen is a Core Faculty Member in the Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology (MACP) program at Antioch University-Santa Barbara. He usually teaches the Trauma Counseling and Sexuality Counseling courses. He resides in Atlanta\, Georgia and teaches online. He is the Editor-in-Chief of The Family Journal: Counseling & Therapy for Couples and Families. He was previously editor of Sexual Addiction & Compulsivity and the Journal of Addictions & Offender Counseling. He has over 100 clinical and scholarly publications.
