Antioch GSLC Professor Dr. Mitchell Kusy to Launch New Book on Dealing with Toxic Employees in the Workplace
A sequel to a previous book he co-authored with Dr. Elizabeth Holloway, Dr. Mitchell Kusy’s new work, set to launch in November 2017, is entitled, Why I Don’t Work Here Anymore: A Leader’s Guide to Offset the Financial and Emotional Costs of Toxic Employees Employees (Boca Raton: CRC Press/Taylor & Francis Group). The meticulously researched book identifies and breaks down the myriad problems facing contemporary leaders in relation to workplace incivility—and what to do about it.
Starting with a simple “plug-and-play” formula, Dr. Kusy helps analyze the specific cost of toxic employees, then presents six key strategies on how to restore personal wellbeing and team performance to the workplace—using a rich mix of inventories, case scenarios, and templates for both leaders and team members.
“Toxic employees not only get under our skin but also erode the financial worth of any organization,” explains Kusy. “Why I Don’t Work Here Anymore begins with an evidence-based worksheet so leaders can determine the financial cost of toxic people with just two statistics—number of employees and average compensation. And voila… the financial cost of toxic people in your organization. This is typically 3 to 4 percent of total compensation costs!” Kusy continues, “With this awareness, the book then helps leaders position themselves around concrete strategies to avoid making a bad toxic hire and just as importantly, what to do to increase individual and team performance if these toxic chameleons are already there—with specific methods to build and sustain workplace cultures of respectful engagement.”
