The Director of Clinical Training (DCT) is a 3 year, non-tenure Core Faculty position in the Couples and Family Therapy program in the School for Applied Psychology, Counseling & Family Therapy. This position is responsible for maintaining and developing the internship programs for the Couples and Family Therapy master’s degree students (including dual Art Therapy and Drama Therapy tracks); management and oversight of the CFT training program at the Antioch Counseling Clinic; and maintaining a 12 credit annual teaching workload. The DCT develops procedures, maintains student clinical training records, and oversees the development and maintenance of sites that meet the clinical training standards for COAMFTE accreditation.
- Maintain an annual 12 credit teaching workload in the CFT Program. Course assignments will be made in consultation with the CFT Chair and the Dean of Applied Programs in Psychology in light of specific individual and program needs
- Advise up to 15 students in the CFT program, including the assessment of academic progress, assistance with arrangements for non-curricular resources (internships, independent studies, etc.), help with other aspects of the students’ relationship with the educational environment at the University, and completion of final reviews related to graduation
- Conduct admission interviews with applicants, and make recommendations to the Admissions Committee regarding admissions decisions in individual cases; follow up with situations involving conditional admissions which require additional monitoring
- Participate in regularly scheduled department and program meetings/retreats for discussion of relevant policy and procedures, development of strategic objectives and directions, and for discussion of topics in teaching/advising, student standards, adjunct faculty relations, and curriculum development
- Serve as Teaching Liaison for various content areas in the CFT Program curriculum to ensure quality of teaching and assist in problem resolution. Activities include recruiting adjunct faculty in the specified content areas, consulting on syllabus development, monitoring mid-quarter and final course evaluations, providing feedback to adjunct faculty about quality of teaching, and providing consultation for problematic student situations
- Contribute to the creation and sharing of knowledge, through active participation in scholarly research and writing, community outreach, and dialogue with professional peers and colleagues in the discipline, profession, and /or educational community
- Participate in activities for professional development (conferences, seminars, workshops, courses) as relevant to areas of special expertise and interest
- Actively engage in the clinical practice and/or supervision of therapy as a licensed clinician in the State of Washington, or as a similarly state licensed or certified clinician
- Develop and maintain appropriate internship sites and maintain professional relationships with agencies and supervisors
- Assist students in developing goals internship processes
- Develop and maintain the necessary forms and reporting procedures for documenting and evaluating internships
- Maintain student clinical training records
- Oversee the affiliation agreements between the University internship sites, and maintain agreement records
- Provide yearly CFT supervisory training for on-site supervisors, and train and approve new supervisors as needed
- Oversee organization and maintenance of supervisory documentation and updates to supervisor lists
- Conduct internship preparation classes, and yearly Internship Fair in collaboration with CMHC Director of Clinical Training
- Manage Sakai project site for MA CFT Clinical Training, maintain database for internship sites, and update handbooks and post to Sakai
- Work with the CFT program to maintain accreditation standards and related outcomes
- Serve as part of the leadership team of the School as Director of Clinical Training, CFT Masters’ degree program
- Supervise work study student assigned to assist the Clinical Training office
- Cover job responsibilities for CMHC Director of Clinical Training during their off-quarter, in exchange for coverage during off-quarter
- Develop a CFT training program for students who need additional support at their internship site to build competencies and relational hours
- Provide oversight and supervisory support to CFT students; assess readiness to start or return to internship placements and communicate this to CFT program chairs/advisees
- Provide administrative support to AUS clinic CFT training program; including scheduling, documenting student progress, maintaining hours, and adhering to current licensing and accreditation standards
- Collaborate with the CFT Case Consultation liaison
- Assist Director of Clinical Training for Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program with clinic management as needed
- Doctorate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university required, with an academic background appropriate to a program committed to progressive education, diversity, social justice and community engagement
- AAMFT Approved Supervisor or AAMFT Supervisor in Training
- Identify professionally primarily as a Marriage and Family Therapist, demonstrated by adopting the AAMFT Code of Ethics as a guide for professional conduct and membership in systemically-oriented organizations, including AAMFT, and/or demonstrating relational identities in work or other environments
- Licensed or license-eligible as a marriage and family therapist in Washington State
- Prior teaching experience at the university level, preferably with an adult student population
- Incorporate social justice and multicultural frameworks in teaching, clinical work, and research
- Ideal candidates will complement and build on existing strengths within the school, and will be eager to interact with students and faculty from the broader community at Antioch University Seattle
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: couple and family therapy research and assessment; social justice theories pertaining to systemic therapy; research and/or clinical work with a focus on social justice and multicultural issues, human sexuality and/or sex therapy, or abusive systems; online or low-residency instruction experience; competency-based assessment experience; interest or experience in experiential education methods; interest and/or experience in training supervisors; varied clinical experience.
- Program/certificate development, administration, and/or leadership experience in an accreditated graduate program
Equivalent education/experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
