Job Description

The Teaching Assistant (TA) will support faculty in delivering high-quality educational experiences in Earth Systems Science. This role is ideal for a PhD level student seeking to gain teaching experience, enhance their academic skills, and contribute to a collaborative learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Course Support:

  • Assist the instructor with student questions, office hours, and facilitate online discussion forums.
  • Provide insights and support to students and input to faculty on organization of the course.

Student Engagement:

  • Hold regular office hours to assist students with course content and assignments.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment by encouraging student participation and addressing questions.

Assessment and Feedback:

  • Assist in grading forums and assignments according to co-created established rubrics.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students on their work to promote learning and improvement.

Administrative Duties:

  • Help manage course logistics, including communications, and record-keeping.
  • Collaborate with the instructor to identify and implement strategies for enhancing course delivery and student engagement.

Professional Development:

  • Engage in development opportunities related to teaching and learning.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a PhD program in environmental studies.
  • Success in ES 7030 in the past.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
