Friends of Education Speaker Series
As part of the Friends of Education Speaker Series, renowned educator and founder of numerous schools, Dr. Paul F. Cummins spoke on leveling the playing field for students from every background with joy, passion, and creativity. President and CEO of Coalition for Engaged Education (CEE), Dr. Cummins reinvented progressive education and has proven that given appropriate support, all children can succeed, regardless of their circumstances. He received his bachelor of arts from Stanford University, his MAT from Harvard, and his doctorate from the University of Southern California. In 1971, he co-founded Crossroads School in Santa Monica and built it into one of Los Angeles’s most successful educational institutions and a national model for innovative, independent schools.
“Providing the Antioch community with the opportunity to engage with scholars is a significant commitment from the Education Department,” said Cynthia McDermott, Chair of the Education Department. “This academic year we are honored to continue this tradition with Dr. Paul Cummins, progressive educator extraordinaire who has provided a socially just education for thousands of Los Angeles youth. He is indeed an inspiring educator with years of experience in making a difference and being an Upstander!”
On February 16, 2017, the Friends of Education speaker series will welcome award-winning teacher, researcher, and blogger Dr. Julian Heilig, Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and the Director of the Doctorate in Educational Leadership at California State University Sacramento.
