Faculty and Alumni take to the Stage
Shades of Disclosure: Who Are You? will be opening Saturday, January 28, 2017. for a full run at one of LA’s best-known experimental theatre venues, Skylight Theatre in Los Feliz. The production was picked up for the run after a recent November Sunday afternoon spoken word performance by the Writer’s Collective QueerWise. The Writer’s performances illuminate an emotionally charged landscape from the perspective of HIV/AIDS survivors. The AIDS epidemic continues to resonate, posing a host of social justice issues we all must face: Homophobia, Racism, Immigration Rights, Healthcare, and the Rights of Trans People.
Antioch Alums Ken Pienkos (MFA 2014) our Reference & Instruction Librarian and Adjunct Faculty discloses the monsters in his cupboards in his three crafted monologues; and Jessie Jacobson (MAP 2003) has contributed Trans and therapist-related monologues in addition to composing an original song for the production, utilizing lyrics taken primarily from the casts’ monologues.
These AULA Scholars and now Actors invite our community to Skylight Theatre Company’s new world premiere production.
Everyone has history. Do we disclose it? Do we rewrite it? Have we learned from it?
Become a voice of witness by seeing and hearing this strong collective share their stories, unheard voices, and celebrate the history that is Skylight Theatre where more than 100 World Premiere Performances have changed the purpose of generations.
The quality of work being done in Los Angeles has risen to new heights. The number of productions that have started in Los Angeles and have moved on to other cities has multiplied. To be able to see work from the LA 99-seat stages being performed on Broadway, in London, and all over the country is a true testament to the entire LA Theatre Community. Gil Kaan (2016)
Shades of Disclosure is the latest in this legacy.
