Antioch USMA Community Members’ Organizations Honored at APA Planning Awards

In June, organizations in which a few alumni and faculty from the Antioch MA in Urban Sustainability (USMA) program are involved were honored at the APA Los Angeles Planning Awards gala. The annual awards are decided by a panel of judges for organizations demonstrating distinguished and innovative planning practices in Los Angeles.

USMA Interim Chair, Adonia Lugo PhD, and alumna Yolanda Davis-Overstreet are advisory board members of People for Mobility Justice. Alumnus, Ade Neff is the founder of Ride On Bike Co-op. Both organizations won an award for “Grassroots Initiative.” Pueblo Planning, founded by USMA faculty member Monique G. Lopez, won an award for “Distinguished Leadership- Emerging Planning and Design Firm”; An organization for which Lugo is also a team member.

“It was great seeing USMA alumni, faculty, and community partners recognized for being innovators in Los Angeles’ urban planning landscape,” said Lugo about the APA awards. “We’re looking forward to bringing this community-based approach to urban planning into our program this fall when Monique will start teaching a course on participatory planning.”
