“Equality For All Humanity, Our Next Step” was the theme of Los Angeles’ 35th Kingdom Day Parade on January 20, 2020. The Kingdom Day Parade passionately honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and has grown from its humble beginnings into the largest and longest-running Birthday Celebration in the nation. For the second year, the AULA community joined more than 300 parade walkers on King Blvd. to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
More than 30 Antioch students, alumni, faculty, and community members wore t-shirts with Antioch College Alumna Coretta Scott King’s image and her quote, “Struggle is a never-ending process. Freedom is never really won, you earn it and win it in every generation.” The colors of the shirts were pink and green shirts to match the colors of Mrs. King’s Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) sorority. The group carried a puppet of in the likeness of Coretta Scott King.
The Kingdom Day Parade marked the kickoff to AULA’s “Black IS: American History…The Black Perspective” which takes place from January 30 through the month of February. Events include a February 19 screening and discussion of the film Queen & Slim and a February 25 Panel Discussion, “Art, Fashion, Politics: The Black Aesthetic.”
