Foot Soldiers for Justice and the Ongoing Struggle for the Vote Opening Reception
October 4 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Photographs were taken by Stephanie Glass Solomon in Selma, Alabama at the Commemoration of Bloody Sunday and the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
The exhibit is a reminder that the struggle for the vote is ongoing, and that activist foot soldiers are needed as much now as in the past. The work is meant to inspire citizens to call for: the rollback of gerrymandering; secure and updated voter machines; easier voter registration with greater access to the polls; restoring the vote to ex-felons and felons; removal of onerous ID requirements, and more.
Remarks by Dr. Elaine Parker-Gills provide historical context of the struggle for the vote.
This reception will kick off “Antioch Gets Out the Vote,” a student-led campaign to register, inform, and engage voters throughout the campus and the Corporate Pointe complex.
The exhibit is open through October.
