Antioch University Midwest Recognized as a Military Friendly® School
Yellow Springs, Ohio – For the seventh year in a row, Antioch University Midwest (AUM) has been designated as a 2016 Military Friendly® School by Victory Media, the leader in successfully connecting the military and civilian worlds. Now in its seventh year, the original, premier Military Friendly® Schools designation provides service members and their families with transparent, data-driven ratings about post-military education and career opportunities.
“This designation, along with countless stories of success from our student veterans, further validates Antioch University Midwest’s commitment to providing academic, professional and community resources for those who have served our country,” said Dr. Karen Schuster Webb, president of AUM. “From awarding academic credit for service experience, to our program concentrations specifically related to veterans issues, it is not only our responsibility – but also our honor – to help those who have devoted their lives to serving and protecting others.”
The Military Friendly® Schools designation is awarded to the top colleges, universities, and trade schools in the country doing the most to embrace military students, and to dedicate resources to ensure their success both in the classroom and after graduation. Resources for veteran students and both active and retired military service members at AUM include:
- Participation in the U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs Post-9/11 Yellow Ribbon Program, matching dollar-for-dollar the amount paid towards tuition;
- The ability to transfer up to 100% of undergraduate credits earned through the military;
- Flexible class scheduling and locations – including online – that provide convenient schedules for veterans and their families;
- Unique academic programs and concentrations specifically related to veterans and veterans issues;
- Job fairs and career resources specifically for service members;
- An on-campus Military Service Members Resource Center;
- A designated AUM Veteran Services Liaison who serves as a central point of contact for all veteran students and alumni, as well as veteran advocacy and supporting issues and challenges unique to veterans; and
- Special financial aid grants and scholarships
“Antioch University Midwest, with our small class sizes and personable faculty, is ideal for military members, veterans, and their family members. Our adult education environment respects veterans’ prior learning and life experiences, and integrates those lessons and experiences into the classroom,” said Laurette Nichols, veterans services liaison and 20 year Air Force Veteran. “We appreciate the Military Friendly Schools designation as it highlights our continuous efforts to respectfully serve the military and veteran community.”
Institutions competed for the elite Military Friendly School title by completing a survey of over 100 questions covering ten categories, including military support on campus, graduation and employment outcomes, and military spouse policies. Survey responses were scored against benchmarks across these key indicators of success. In addition, data was independently tested by Ernst & Young based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media with guidance from an independent advisory board of higher education and recruiting professionals.
“Post-secondary institutions earning the 2016 Military Friendly® School award have exceptionally strong programs for transitioning service members and spouses,” said Daniel Nichols, chief product officer of Victory Media and Navy Reserve veteran. “Our Military Friendly® Schools are truly aligning their military programs and services with employers to help students translate military experience, skills and training into successful careers after graduation.”
