AUM Students Participate in Propel OH
Students Henrietta Jones, Marsha Kerr and Tim Gasho represented Antioch University Midwest with faculty member, Alicia Storost, at the Propel Ohio Collegiate Leadership Summit on October 14th at the University of Dayton. The conference, sponsored by the Office of U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown and other organizations including Ohio Campus Compact, Ohio United Way and Children’s Hunger Alliance, addressed how students are working to alleviate childhood poverty. Students networked with community outreach organizations from numerous Ohio colleges and attended workshops discussing Health and Hunger, Education, and Housing Security issues.
Jones, Kerr, and Gasho presented at the resource fair, highlighting the student-formed AUM Outreach group that seeks to advance justice through social action. They are partnering with Ohio Proud, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, St. Vincent dePaul, Better World Books, and the National Center for Families Learning. They will give to the community with projects such as a campus book drives and the creation of a living food pantry and free farmer’s market on a 1.5 acre plot that students and faculty will develop into a raised bed community garden.
“It is with great hope others will join in pursuing both long and short term goals at AUM to build a new foundation into lasting partnerships and, together, facilitate community need within poverty and our humanity,” said Kerr.
