Antioch Midwest Moves to Meet Healthcare Changes
New MBA Program Announced
Healthcare has been a topic of debate on national, state, and local levels. Both the US House and Senate are challenging legislation that could leave millions without coverage, cut Medicaid, and impose work requirements on aid recipients. Each change, or even potential change, increases the need for qualified healthcare administrators — those trained to adeptly navigate shifting sands of law and policy.
In response, Antioch University Midwest (AUM) is launching a new MBA program with a special concentration in healthcare leadership.
“Perhaps the most daunting thing about all these changes,” says Program Chair Hays Moulton, “is the uncertainty. The system is incredibly complex and even those with years of experience are finding that adaptive skills in leadership are more important than knowledge of past policy.”
The new MBA Program’s goal is to educate a generation of leaders with a strong sense of social awareness and values, who embrace the need to give back to their communities.
“Our students learn to be strategic, values-based leaders,” Moulton continues. “They are trained with hands-on, dynamic leadership competencies in a collaborative learning environment. An ethical healthcare leader is able to get care to the greatest number by leveraging or even challenging bureaucracy and politics.”
The 42-credit hour program explores topics ranging from social responsibility to financial administration; from human resources management to addressing the needs of an increasingly diverse nation. The program also explores the different settings of healthcare administration whether they be for-profit, non-profit, or community clinics.
AUM’s MBA program offers students a schedule for completing their MBA while managing multiple life priorities. The hybrid-delivery program is divided between classes at the Yellow Springs campus, one weekend per semester, with online assignments and group projects between meetings.
