Dear President Steger:
Antioch University wishes to express its shock and deep sadness over the immense tragedy that has fallen upon your community. We extend our condolences to the families and friends of the innocent students and faculty members who lost their lives, and our hearts go out to the university and all of Blacksburg as you cope with this great loss of human life. We also offer our thoughts and prayers to those who were injured and in recovery. The nation and the world grieve with you.
Antioch has a long heritage of thought and study around social justice and civic engagement. With this tragic shooting, we are asking that our six campuses renew with vigor our commitment to the philosophy and study of human rights, social justice, and equality in a climate of non-violence issues that have plagued humanity since the beginning of time.
Your strength and compassionate responses are inspiring campuses across the nation. We honor your efforts and offer you our support as you recover from this great tragedy.
With heartfelt sympathy to you and your community,
Tullisse A. Murdock, PhD
