Dr. Kathi Borden Receives Education Advocacy Award

Dr. Kathi Borden was presented with an Advocacy Award from the American Psychological Association Board of Educational Affairs at the Educational Leadership Conference, held in September in Washington D.C.

The citation mentioned Kathi’s strong advocacy on behalf of advancing psychology’s educational agenda, and her tireless work on behalf of the Education Advocacy Trust. She recruited many “campus/site representatives,” expanding the advocacy network, making it more powerful. The announcement was met with a thunderous applause from her many colleagues and friends in the audience.

Kathi is a founding Regional Coordinator for the APA Education Directorate’s grassroots federal advocacy network. She undertakes and coordinates many different efforts, working to:

1. Help recruit “campus coordinators” at academic program and clinical training sites who will help mobilize the psychologists at their school or site when there is a need for psychologists to speak up in numbers regarding some federal legislation that addresses psychology education and related needs.

2. Advocate for a variety of psychology education and related causes by meeting with, writing to, calling, faxing, and emailing New Hampshire’s senators (Gregg and Sununu) and our Congressional Representative (Hodes).

3. Help disperse emails containing “action alerts” that APA would like psychologists to work on.

4. Attend functions to honor senators and representatives who have supported or championed psychology causes.

5. Remain active in the Psychology Advocacy Trust

6. Help in the training of new psychology advocates.
