EAOP Alum Peter Alexander Performs at Washington Rally
Environmental Advocacy and Organizing Program (EAOP) first cohort alum Peter Alexander (’04) made the news! The debut of his original song “Begging for Change – The Health care Blues” caught the attention of organizers in Washington, DC, who then asked him to to perform his song at a health care-reform rally at the Capitol on Thursday, June 25. [To see Peter perform the song at the rally and to link to the YouTube video visit Peter’s web site.]
The Portland Daily Sun ranabout Peter’s “Begging for Change” song and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) campaign for public health care, calling it “pure political poetry.”
The extended version of the story is that other EAOP/ANE alum are involved with organizing and advocacy for public health care and specifically for the rally: Jaime Contois (’02) and Sabrina Johnson (’08), who organized New Hampshire residents to bus down to DC for Thursday’s rally. Jaime is New Hampshire coordinator for Working Families Win and Sabrina is Lead Organizer with New Hampshire Citizens Alliance.
It’s GREAT to see our alums in action on one of the most urgent public interest issues of our time.
