Economic Recovery, Environment, addressed by March 5 Panel
A panel of distinguished experts will discuss environmental issues and economic recovery, Saturday, March 5, at Antioch University New England (AUNE). The event, titled “Systems Innovations at the Forefront of Economic Recovery,” will look at how to promote sustainable economic growth while reducing the environmental impacts of that growth.
The discussion is scheduled for 2-6 p.m. in Room E101 at AUNE. It is part of the Energy and Materials Sustainability course in AUNE’s Department of Environmental Studies. Anthony Sarkis, adjunct faculty member in environmental studies, will moderate the panel, which comprises:
Peter Lowitt, chair of the Eco-Industrial Development Council of North America and director/land use administrator for the Devens Enterprise Commission, which focuses on the sustainable redevelopment of Fort Devens, Massachusetts, a former army base
Michael Durfor, executive director of the Northeast Resource Recovery Association
Dwayne Breger, director of renewable and alternative energy for Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources
Daniel Bosley, former state representative for First Berkshire District in Massachusetts and CEO of the Partnership for North Adams, a nonprofit organization
Maurie Cohen, associate professor in the Department of Chemistry and Environmental Science, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT); director of the NJIT graduate program in Environmental Policy Studies and faculty member in the Division of Global Affairs at Rutgers University. He is co-founder and co-convener of the Sustainable Consumption Research and Action Initiative, an international knowledge network.
David Hess, professor in the Department of Science and Technology Studies and director of the Ecological Economics, Values and Policy program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York.
