AUNE Alumna Wins Award from Michigan Botanical Club
Yarrow Wolfe (MS ‘06), an alumna of the Department of Environmental Studies at Antioch University New England (AUNE), was given the Isobel Dickinson Memorial Award for the best student paper published in The Michigan Botanist in 2009. The title of the paper is “The Ram’s Head Lady’s Slipper (Cypripedium Arietinum): A Primer for Wetland Preservation in the Carney Fen Wetland Complex, Carney, MI.”
The Michigan Botanist is a peer-reviewed journal about plant life in the Great Lakes Region, and is published quarterly by the Michigan Botanical Club, the native plant society for the state of Michigan. The club will present Yarrow with the award at its fall meeting.
Yarrow is a land protection specialist for the Leelanau Conservancy in Leland, Michigan. She did research for her AUNE thesis in the Carney Fen, located on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and home to the largest population of orchids in the state. The Carney Fen Natural Area (2,325 acres) was dedicated as a natural area in the state by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in June 2009.
