Food for All Conversation Draws a Crowd
About seventy-five people came to for Food for All: A Community Conversation, part of AUNE’s Fall Speaker Series, on November 3, to discuss how to build a sustainable local food economy in the Monadnock region.
“What was most exciting to me was seeing so many people reach across barriers and commit to making tangible changes that will improve accessibility and sustainability in our food systems,” said one of the organizers, Jess Gerrior, project manager for the Monadnock Community Market Co-op and a student in the Environmental Education program in AUNE’s Department of Environmental Studies. “One of the conversation’s significant outcomes was the observation that, while we all share a common belief that everyone should have access to food that is nourishing, affordable and sustainable, there are significant challenges to even defining, let alone promoting those qualities.”
The forum was a joint presentation of AUNE, Cheshire County Conservation District, Community Garden Connection, Early Sprouts, Land for Good, Monadnock Community Market Co-op, Monadnock Farm and Community Connection, Southwestern Community Services and Vision 2020.
The final event in the Speaker Series is aon Thursday, November 17, in AUNE’s Community Room.
