Kathi Borden Goes to Washington
At the request of the American Psychological Association, Dr. Kathi Borden, chair of the Department of Clinical Psychology, recently visited Washington, D.C., to talk with the New Hampshire delegation of senators and congressional representatives about funding for the Graduate Psychology Education (GPE) program, a federal program dedicated to the education and training of psychologists.
Left, Borden met with U.S. Senator Jean Shaheen (D-NH), a member of the Labor, Health, and Human Services Subcommittee of the powerful Appropriations Committee. They discussed a funding level that would allow accredited psychology programs like AUNE’s PsyD program to apply for GPE grant funding to train doctoral students to work with high-need, high-risk, and underserved groups such as veterans and their families, children and adolescents, rural populations, the elderly, and those with chronic medical conditions.
