Antioch University New England (AUNE) Welcomes New Trustees
Antioch University New England (AUNE) has named five new members to its Board of Trustees. Robert Englund, Anthony Kline, Allen Mendelson, Sally Mixsell, and Lizann Peyton will each serve a three-year term. Members of AUNE’s Board of Trustees are dedicated to maintaining the university’s long-standing commitment to innovative experiential learning and socially engaged citizenship and to ensuring students graduate with a renewed sense of their purpose as scholars and citizens.
“Engaged boards are critical to the success of an institution, and AUNE is blessed with an exemplary and active Board of Trustees,” said Dr. Steve Jones, president of AUNE. “I’ve found that great boards tend to attract and appoint new trustees of like quality. Our five new trustees follow that pattern.”

Robert J. Englund graduated from Upsala College in 1964, and then joined the Peace Corps and volunteered in Nigeria and West Africa. He earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1976. Recently retired as a physician with Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth Hitchcock-Keene, Englund serves on the board of Monadnock Family Services and is an active member of Elm City Rotary. He has just completed nine years of board service with the Keene Family YMCA.
Anthony Kline is an engineer, an attorney, and the steward of Nye Hill Farm—a diverse, USDA certified organic farm in Roxbury, NH. He is an experienced litigator and a partner in Gelineau and Kline based in Salem, MA. He is a principal of The Ruggles-Klingemann Company, where he served as lead engineer from 1986-2013.
Allen Mendelson, AUNE ’75, is a financial advisor for Edward Jones in Keene, NH. Mendelson has served on a variety of nonprofit boards, and has chaired the Monadnock United Way, Monadnock Children’s Museum, and Elm City Rotary. He is involved with several other community organizations including the Cedarcrest Center for Children with Disabilities; Home Health Care, Hospice and Community Services; Monadnock Regional Foundation for Families; Monadnock Community Services Center; and Bach With Verse.
Sally Mixsell is the head of Stoneleigh-Burnham School, a boarding and day school for 160 girls in Greenfield, MA. In addition to a career as a teacher and administrator in boarding and day schools, Mixsell helped to create and manage the summer intensive master’s program at the Klingenstein Center for Independent School Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Several years later, she was a founding partner in eduINNOVATIONS, LLC, an educational consulting firm working with private schools to build leadership capacity and develop institutional programming. While consulting, Mixsell and her partner ran the Beginning Administrators Institute each summer on the campus of The Lawrenceville School (NJ). Mixsell serves on the board of the Association of Independent Schools of New England (AISNE) and the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce. She attended Wells College (BA) and Columbia University (MA).
Lizann Peyton, AUNE ’98, is an organization development consultant working with nonprofit boards and community groups on strategic planning, board development, organizational assessment and capacity-building, workshops, retreat facilitation, leadership coaching, staff development, founder and executive transitions, stakeholder engagement processes, community needs assessment, fundraising strategies for small organizations, and peer learning circles for nonprofit directors and philanthropic funders. Peyton’s prior work included 15 years in public policy and state and national coalition in the areas of health and human services. She has served on and chaired numerous nonprofit boards, and volunteers her leadership with GoodWeave International, a human rights organization working to end child labor in the overseas carpet industry. She holds a master’s degree in Organization and Management from AUNE, and is a nationally certified Core Capacity Assessment facilitator for the TCC Group in New York; former curriculum advisor to Benchmarks for Better Vermont; and former adjunct faculty at Marlboro College Graduate School, and AUNE.
