Dr. Torin Finser Discusses New Book, “A Second Classroom,” December 1 at Seacoast Waldorf School
Dr. Torin Finser, chair of the Department of Education at Antioch University New England (AUNE), will discuss his latest book, A Second Classroom: Parent-Teacher Relationships in a Waldorf School, on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, from 7-8:30pm in the Community Room at the Seacoast Waldorf School, 403 Harold L. Dow Highway, in Eliot, Maine.
Both new and experienced parents, teachers, and school administrators will find value in the discussion, and discover practical tips for improving parent conferences and class meetings, strategies for parent volunteers, and the value of effective administration. Parents are inspired to be “co-responsible for the social health” of the class and encouraged to become part of an active learning community.
Dr. Finser is honest, personal, and direct, drawing on decades of his own experience as a parent and teacher, sharing many personal stories, humbly revealing his own blind spots, vulnerabilities, and mistakes. An advocate for research, his book also includes information culled from current parents and teachers and also incorporates related work by Marshall Rosenberg, Karl Konig, Martin Buber, Carl Jung, and Sara Lawrence Lightfoot, among others.
