Dr. Gargi Roysircar and AUNE PsyD student Ashland Thompson Support GTR Project in Haiti
Dr. Gargi Roysircar (core faculty) and Ashland Thompson (2nd yr. PsyD student) of the AUNE Department of Clinical Psychology were in Haiti from December 13th through the 21st. They joined Global Trauma Research (GTR) Inc., a non-profit organization, whose mission is to help support people who have been affected by psychological trauma in Haiti, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. The GTR project in Haiti, launched in December 2013, offers culturally competent trauma assessment and intervention training for Haitian professionals who have traditionally addressed mental health issues of Haitians. The providers are medical providers, teachers, and religious leaders. Gargi and Ashland were part of a 17-member team that traveled to Croix-des-Bouquet, Haiti, (near Port-au-Prince) to provide mental health training, coordinate children’s activities, and facilitate a Christmas party.
