Antioch Bird Club is hosting its 2nd Big Year!
Calling all birders, bird-enthusiasts, and bird-feeder watchers!
From January 1st through December 31st, the Antioch Bird Club is collecting bird sightings from the Antioch Community!
In a classic Big Year of birding, ABC wants to find as many species of birds as possible in a calendar year. Previously, they hosted their 2018 Global Big Year; tallying 1,373 species in over 20 countries, with participants from all across Antioch University counting over 300,000 individual birds! By bringing Antioch University students, staff, faculty, and alumni together in this effort, the Big Year showcases the amazing diversity of birds from each region that we have connections to: New England, the Midwest, California, Washington, Hawaii, sub-Saharan and Western Africa, and more! So, the challenge is this: how many birds can the Antioch community collectively see in the year 2020?
Current students and staff, as well as alumni are welcome to participate however they like. All skill levels are welcome to contribute whatever they can identify!
Whether you’re chasing honey-creepers through the jungle or watching chickadees at your feeder, ABC wants your sightings! Every bird counts.
This time, the official count will be kept through the Antioch Bird Records eBird account so be sure to share all your Big Year checklists with that account (see instructions for submission in the ABC Big Year booklet). Please feel free to submit any birds you have already logged for this year. Pictures of birds (if you can get them) are highly recommended!
