Congratulations to Adele De Batz, a a student in AUSB’s BA program with concentrations in Communications & Media and Entrepreneurship, for winning second place and $3000 for her entrepreneurial product at the Scheinfeld Center 4th Annual New Venture Challenge in the Fé Bland Forum on Friday, May 2. De Batz created Goddess Moto, a business that offers protective motorcycle apparel to women that is stylish, lightweight, and road rash free.

First place went to team of Santa Barbara City College students – Doni Nahmias, Kian Maalizaden, Shawn Michael, Paige Grandstaff, Sara Skaugrud – for their product Re-Leash, and third place to SBCC student Tom Garnett for Monocool.

The New Venture Challenge is college-wide business plan competition for SBCC and other local colleges and universities hosted annually by SBCC. A student or team of students submit a business for consideration and up to ten finalists are chosen to present at the competition. The finalists give an 8-minute pitch and judges have two minutes for questions. The judging panel this year was comprised of Lynda Weinman from lynda.com, Christopher Morales of Montecito Bank & Trust, and Serial Entrepreneur Kathy Odell.
