AUSB Campus Open During Mandatory Evacuations
Message from the Provost
Updated: Tuesday, March 13, 2018
Dear AUSB Students,
The decision for mandatory evacuation has been made for parts of Santa Barbara County, effective at noon today (March 13, 2018). Any employee working on our Santa Barbara campus who resides in these areas is asked to contact his or supervisor, and make the necessary arrangements to leave work immediately and evacuate from home this afternoon. Supervisors are asked to convey this information to Marcus McMillan, our HR Associate.
I am writing to confirm that the campus remains open and is not in an evacuation zone. If there is a need for closure this will be communicated here on the AUSB website and through email in the future.
You may check the Santa Barbara County Ready website to determine if you live in the evacuation zone.
We trust you are the best judge of your safety and if you determine you cannot come to campus or class please reach out to faculty who are ready to support you. Faculty have been asked to communicate with students about using the Zoom platform for delivery of classes, or make other arrangements if necessary, in order to assist students in meeting their learning goals if they are more severely impacted by the evacuation or storm.
The California Highway Patrol has indicated that the 101 freeway remains open to facilitate the movement of evacuated residents. The American Red Cross has also opened the evacuation center at the Earl Warren Showgrounds, 3400 Calle Real in Santa Barbara.
Please see the following press release:
Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown is using an abundance of caution in requiring mandatory evacuation in the interest of protecting the lives of thousands of residents. We are all asked to exercise caution in driving in adjacent areas during the expected storm. The Santa Barbara County Ready will be updated regularly with road closure information.
Our primary concern is for your safety. Please feel to reach out directly to faculty, staff, and Student Services.
Dr. Barbara Lipinski
