Dr. Stephen Southern is New Chair of the MA in Clinical Psychology (MACP) Program
Antioch University Santa Barbara announces the appointment of Dr. Stephen Southern as the new Chair and Core Faculty of the MA in Clinical Psychology program. He assumed the role on July 1, 2019. Dr. Southern joins AUSB from Northwestern University, and had prior appointments at Texas A & M University-Corpus Christi, University of Southern Mississippi, University of North Texas, and Temple University.
“We are proud to have Dr. Southern join our learning community, with educators who are committed to student success and academic excellence,” said Barbara Lipinski, PhD, JD, AUSB Provost and Chief Executive Officer. “Dr. Southern brings with him extensive experience as an academic department chair and director of treatment programs, including the concurrent treatment of addiction and trauma.”
He is licensed as a psychologist in three states including California, is licensed as a marriage and family therapist and professional counselor, is a clinical fellow in the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT), and is certified as a sex therapist through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT). He is an approved clinical supervisor and has served as a supervisor in APPIC member and APA accredited internship programs, in addition to teaching in APA accredited doctoral programs.
Dr. Southern has consulted in program development and evaluation with hospitals, community mental health centers, juvenile justice, and family services agencies, universities, and military support services. He was previously editor of the Journal of Addictions and Offender Counseling and is currently Editor-in-Chief of The Family Journal and Sexual Addiction & Compulsivity. He has over 70 research and professional publications.
