Required Course Texts
For those of you who sometimes count on the AUSB library’s reserve shelf to access some of the texts assigned to your classes, there is good news.
- Wherever possible, the AU Library will purchase e-book access to the books that have been assigned to your classes. Not every book that exists is available for purchase by libraries as an e-book and the large textbook publishers (like McMillan, Pearson, and Cengage) do not typically sell licenses to libraries. Fortunately, these textbook publishers have quickly responded to the Covid-19 crisis and you will find many of these materials available via
- VitalSource, a textbook distributor, has worked with some textbook publishers to offer free e-book rentals of up to 7 textbooks from now until May 24. Here’s how to access those books:
- Go to https://get.vitalsource.com/vitalsource-helps
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select Bookshelf Login
- Once you have signed up for an account, you can begin to search for and download your textbooks. (Because there is a limit of 7 books that can be downloaded for free until May 24, choose carefully: these items cannot be returned once checked out.)

The Goods
Antioch has a top-notch digital library, with an abundance of excellent online scholarly resources and services available 24/7, including eBooks, scholarly articles, peer-reviewed journals, and streaming media. Here are some helpful links to connect to these resources:
- Library Catalog (WorldCat Local): Search for books, articles, films – all in one spot
- A-Z Databases: To find specific databases (e.g. PsycBOOKS) or resources (e.g. DSM-V)
- WeDeliver: Bear in mind that as more partner libraries move to temporary off-site operations, requests for print material will take longer and may not be able to be filled at this time.
- Audiobooks: A nice (little) assortment. Ask us how.
- Kanopy: A nice (not so little) assortment of feature films, documentaries, shorts, Criterion collection. Ask us how.
Remember, librarians are here to work with you in numerous ways:
- find articles, books, or chapter relevant to your learning
- discuss options for obtaining required course materials
- facilitate in-depth, holistic research
- figure out how to navigate the online library or become a power searcher
- explore digital archives,
- create a virtual bridge between Google Scholar and AU Library Resources
- organize your references and cite your sources
- figure out Zoom or Sakai,
- answer any questions about the Google suite of tool
- help you get unstuck or reinvigorated
- get a suggestion for a really good book in this uncertain time,
- show you how to stream a ton of free movies on Kanopy,
- and enjoy wonderful audiobooks,
- etc etc etc.
Until We Meet Again (In Person!)
While the physical library remains closed, please retain all library materials currently in your possession. The library is working to extend all loan periods. The AU Library does not collect fines for late materials.
