Starting & Funding a Nonprofit
Do you wonder how you could turn your passion into a non-profit organization, or are you already working or volunteering for an organization close to your heart? Would you like to learn the basics of grant writing to fund your cause or organization?
This workshop is for you! Join us on Friday, August 11 at 5:30pm for a workshop with experienced non-profit administrator and fundraiser, Leana Bowman.
In this workshop, we will:
- Overview the basic steps for creating a nonprofit organization
- Learn how to research grant opportunities
- Review the components needed to create compelling grants
Bring your laptop; we’ll be doing some online research. You will also receive templates and materials for developing non-profit formation documents and grant proposals in the future.

About the Presenter
Leana Bowman, grant writer and author, has been actively involved in the nonprofit sector for the last 25 years. She has founded and operated a homeless meal program, created a charitable foundation for national parks, served as a city parks and recreation commissioner, and participated with a myriad of other nonprofit agencies such as community theaters, service clubs, and conservation groups. She has helped raise more than $20M for the organizations with which she has been affiliated. Leana currently works for SBCC as the Grant Coordinator and teaches nonprofit related classes for Johns Hopkins University and Cuesta College.
