John (JD) Dowling received his Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in depth psychology from the Pacifica Graduate Institute. He is licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Board of Behavioral Sciences Certified Supervisor, Board Certified Clinical & Medical Hypnotherapist, and maintains a private practice in Ventura.

He is an adjunct professor at Antioch University Santa Barbara and was previously at the Pacifica Graduate Institute in Montecito. He currently teaches or has taught Development and Diversity, Professional Law & Ethics, Psychotherapy in Context, Substance Related Disorders and Other Addictive Behaviors, Substance Related and Co-occurring Disorders in Older Adults, Healthy Development in the Aging Population, Life Span Development: Older Adult, and Practicum I.

He is a board certified medical and clinical hypnotherapist, has worked as a substance abuse counselor in the Ventura County Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program, providing individual, group, couples, and family therapy to those suffering from substance use disorders, eating disorders, and process addictions. In addition, he has been Clinical Director of multiple treatment facilities in the private sector.
