Marilyn Owen received her BA in English Literature and MA in Theatre and Dance from California State University, Fullerton where she then taught for 9 years before a second career in psychology. A subsequent MA in Counseling Psychology was earned from Pacifica Graduate Institute. Her clinical work experience was gained over 16 years in community mental health settings working with severely traumatized children. She provided clinical supervision, training, and direct service in a variety of programs including inpatient, residential, intensive outpatient, and community based services in Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health contracted agencies.

In her psychotherapy practice, Marilyn integrates Jungian psychology, the arts, and creative process with Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. She sees this as a powerful way to deepen traditional talk therapy so that it includes the imaginal and the body, knitting together parts of the self that have been split off through trauma and attachment wounding. Many of her clients are highly sensitive artists, healers, and caregivers who are searching for ways to take care of their inner and outer selves more effectively. She also has a special interest in working with LGBTQ clients.

Marilyn teaches at Antioch SB and Pacifica Graduate Institute, and serves on the board of the Santa Barbara chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. She also sees clients in Santa Barbara and Carpinteria, and provides clinical supervision for MFT interns.
