Dr. Barbara Lipinski
Barbara Lipinski, PhD, JD, is Provost and Campus Chief Executive Officer of Antioch University Santa Barbara. Dr. Lipinski’s extensive career in higher education includes over ten years of service at AUSB. She has served the institution in her roles as Academic Dean, Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer, Director of Clinical Training and Chair in the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Program (PsyD).
Dr. Lipinski earned her PhD from the University of Southern California, Jurist Doctorate (JD) from the Southern California Institute of Law with certificates in Business Associations-Corporations and Legal Research, MA in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy at the University of California, and BSW from the Jane Addams School of Social Work at the University of Illinois.
Prior to Antioch, she was Director of Graduate Programs in Psychology at California Lutheran University, and taught at Pacifica Graduate Institute for over twelve years serving as Core Faculty, Chair, Director of Clinical Training, and Research Coordinator. As a first generation Polish-American and first generation college student, she is committed to providing access to education for all, including immigrants and those to be the first in their families to attend an institution of higher education.
Dr. Lipinski’s interests bridge the areas of law and psychology, specifically in forensic psychology including police psychology, therapeutic jurisprudence, restorative justice, and conflict resolution. She is dedicated to advancing social justice through psychological practice and has been in practice since 1985, working with trauma survivors, victims of violent crime, and law enforcement professionals. In addition to developing and/or conducting diversion programs in driving under the influence, substance abuse, burglary, shoplifting, insufficient funds, and traffic offenses, her grant work centered on rehabilitation of juvenile offenders, recidivism reduction for mentally ill adult offenders, and the prevention of violence against women.
Dr. Lipinski serves on the Advisory Council of the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara, is a clinical member of the American Psychological Association (APA), life fellow of the American College of Forensic Examiners (ACFE), lifetime clinical member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), diplomate and board certified forensic examiner with the American Board of Forensic Examiners with a specialty in traumatic stress and child abuse, associate member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), and affiliate member of the Santa Barbara County Bar Association. She served as an expert forensic witness for the California Attorney General’s Office from 1991-2012, was a founding board member of the Restorative Justice Neighborhood Initiative of Santa Barbara, and volunteered at the Ventura County Bar Association as a lay arbitrator for twenty years. She is a California Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.
