AUS Celebrates 35 Years in Seattle

On May 3, 2011, more than 300 alumni, faculty, staff and students are expected to fill room 100, the downstairs atrium and surrounding rooms and hallways to celebrate Antioch University’s 35 years in Seattle.

There is no charge for admission to the catered event which will feature an art exhibit representing work by Antioch students, alumni, faculty, staff and emeritus. However, guests will have the opportunity to support scholarships at the university by engaging in a variety of fun activities and participating in an exhibit of original art.

About the curators:
Our curators for the art show are respected members of the Seattle arts community who have graciously donated their time to ensure an interesting and vibrant show. All have expressed an interest in both celebrating the work of talented, known artists, and discovering new talent through their participation in this show.

Barbara Shaiman, Director of the Seattle Art Museum Gallery
Ms. Shaiman taught college-level fine art in New York prior to her move to Seattle. She has directed the SAM Gallery for over two decades and is active on panels, juries, auctions, and other community activities in the arts.

Jen Graves
Ms. Graves is a highly regarded art critic. Her regular column in THE STRANGER is considered to be one of the most influential sources of information and insight into fine art showings in Seattle.

Sarah Traver
Ms. Traver has recently taken over the Seattle Traver Gallery after developing the gallery’s Tacoma location. She is carrying on the work of her family to create “a space for learning, the sharing of ideas, and insight.”

About the art show:
Fifty percent (50%) of the sale price of artwork will go to support scholarships for students in our university’s renowned expressive arts specialization in our psychology program.

Other activities at the event:
A time line that would celebrate our 35 year history year-by-year is also being developed and will appear on the hallway walls and feature alumni and faculty comments and photographs. It will also appear on the university’s website, the Antioch Alumni Blog, YouTube and Facebook.

Great food and non-alcoholic beverages will be free-of-charge. The only cost will be for attendees who order wine and beer; those proceeds will go towards supporting AUS scholarships.

AUS thanks BECU their generous donation to the expressive arts scholarship fund connected with this event.
