Seattle Student Life Update
First off, we want to let you know we will be hosting a virtual student meeting with the Provost, Ben Pryor, next Friday, April 3rd from 3-4 pm. This will be an opportunity for students to check in with Ben and ask any questions about the upcoming Spring quarter. We will send out a link to the meeting early next week. We look forward to seeing you there.
We hope you made it through your final Winter quarter assignments and we hope you are staying safe and well during this time. On Monday (3/23) Ben sent an email containing information about accessing resources on campus and in the greater Seattle community. Here is some additional information from local publications Crosscut and The Evergrey about sheltering in place in Seattle. Please reach out to us if there is anything you need and we will do our best to help.
Many have been sheltering in place for a while, and there are so many inherent stressors right now. We want to offer some ideas for movement during this time since movement can be helpful in reducing stress. See below for ideas for engaging in movement (and meditation) during shelter-in-place.
We would like to encourage you to reach out to us to share resources you have discovered or ways you are taking care of yourself and your family as we navigate this uncertain time. Did you access a resource that was helpful to you? Do you have a recipe or a book title to share? We would be happy to pass your ideas along to the rest of the student community.
Our librarian Beverly Stuart wanted us to let you know there is a free RefWorks training coming up next week on Tuesday, March 31 from 10-11 am. RefWorks is a bibliography management tool that helps you organize your research and makes it easy to print out your references/bibliography. The training will cover how to use RefWorks for all reference management needs. Register here.
We mentioned last week that we are now offering office hours via Zoom. Amy will be available on Zoom Monday-Friday during the following times:
- Mondays: 1 pm to 4 pm
- Tuesdays: 9 am to 12 pm
- Wednesdays: 9 am to 11 am
- Wednesdays: 2 pm to 3 pm
- Fridays: 9 am to 1 pm
**(These are recurring links.) This is an offering to students to log in and ask questions. HOWEVER, in addition, this is an opportunity for each one of you to log in for some face to face connection. Many of us will experience heightened levels of anxiety, loneliness, and isolation during this time. We want you to know that you’re not alone. This is going to be a period of trial and error. We will start with these hours, but if we hear you need different hours or additional hours, the Student Life office will work together to meet your needs as best as possible. If for some reason Amy can’t be on, we will send out an email to the AUS community.
Take care of yourselves and each other. We will be in touch.
