Free Halloween Movie – “Get Out”

October 31, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The Racial Equity Project student group and the AUS library have partnered to host a special Halloween showing of the popular horror film Get Out for free in room 220A, at 4 pm, on Halloween day, 10/31/17.

This movie has a 99% “certified fresh” rating from Rotten Tomatoes, a score they calculated by analyzing 287 movie reviews for the film.

The New Yorker describes the film in this way: “In ‘Get Out,’ one of the great films by a first-time director in recent years, Jordan Peele borrows tones and archetypes from horror movies and thrillers, using them as a framework for the most personal of experiences and ideas: what it’s like to be a young black man in the United States today.”

It’s written and directed by Jordan Peele of Key & Peele, the sketch comedy duo famous for the “Obama Anger Translator” sketches, and more. This connection to sketch comedy is particularly notable because in 2015, then-President Obama himself stepped into Jordan Peele’s role, playing President Obama, for a White House Correspondents Dinner “Obama Anger Translator”.

The movie is free of charge to attend, although donations will be accepted to help REP cover future club events.

The movie will also be free to check out for free through the AUS library, once the Halloween screening has taken place.
