Upon graduating from Augsburg College with a major in French, David Norgard continued his studies at Yale Divinity School where he earned his MDiv degree. While at Yale, he founded the Yale Gay and Lesbian Cooperative, a cross-campus student advocacy group that still flourishes. Upon graduation, he received the Dean’s Citation for Community Service. The Divinity School honored him again in 1995 when he received a Distinguished Alumni Award. More recently, he joined the ranks of Antioch alumni, earning an MA in Organizational Management. He earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Claremont School of Theology, from which he also received the President’s Award for Academic Excellence.

Before returning to Antioch to teach, Norgard provided executive leadership to several faith-based nonprofit organizations, guiding them through financial and programmatic turnarounds. This experience is reflected in the name of the consulting practice he launched in 2004, OD180 Consulting. The consultancy specializes in strategic planning and governance-related issues.

Norgard’s enthusiasm for teaching in the area of nonprofit studies derives from his understanding of nonprofit organizations as catalysts of social justice movements and guardians of the advances that such movements achieve. His research interests focus on faith-based organizations and the governance function of nonprofits.

He is a priest of the Episcopal Church, resident in the Diocese of Los Angeles. In 2003, he received the Bishop Whipple Cross from the Diocese of Minnesota for his leadership of Episcopal Community Services. He was inducted as a Canon of St. Paul’s Cathedral, San Diego, in 2012 for his development efforts there.
