La Otra Conquista

A 2000 feature film written and directed by Salvador Carrasco and produced by Alvaro Domingo. The film is a drama about the aftermath of the 1520s Spanish Conquest of Mexico told by the perspective of the indigenous Aztec people. “The Other Conquest” opens with the infamous massacre of the Aztecs at the Great Temple of Tenochtitlan [what is now called Mexico City]. As if awakening from a dream, one young man rises from among the dead to find his mother murdered, the Spanish in power and the dawn of a new era in his native land. This film is rated R.  Watch the trailer!

After the film, Art Cisneros, Chumash elder, Firekeeper, and Tribal Trust Board Member, will lead a community discussion on topics in the film, including reconciliation, Indigenous People’s Day, and Chumash wisdom.
