Dr. Mitch Kusy

Dr. Mitch Kusy, PhD joined the PhD Program as Professor of Organization Learning & Development in July 2005. Dr. Kusy is internationally known in the field of organization development, is a Fulbright Scholar (2004-09), the 1998 Minnesota Organization Development Practitioner of the Year and has an extensive career as a global consultant in the areas of leadership development, assessment of organizational culture, strategic planning, team development and the design of organizational communities of respectful engagement.

Dr. Kusy’s books include Toxic Workplace! Managing Toxic Personalities and Their Systems of Power (co-authored with Elizabeth Holloway, Jossey-Bass, 2009), Manager’s Desktop Consultant: Just-in-time Solutions to the Top People Problems that Keep You Up at Night (Davies-Black, 2007), The Little Book of Leadership Development: 50 Ways to Bring Out the Leader in Every Employee (co-authored with Dr. Scott Allen, a graduate of the PhD in Leadership and Change Program; AMACOM, 2011), Breaking the Code of Silence:How Prominent Leaders Rebounded from 7 Critical Mistakes (Rowman & Littlefield, 2005) and Fast Forward Leadership: How to Exchange Outmoded Practices for 21st Century Leadership (Financial Times – Prentice Hall, 1999) which was the 3rd best-selling book in the United States according to “What Corporate America is Reading” (Knight-Ridder Tribune News Service, 2000). Dr. Kusy’s books have been translated into Russian (Fast Forward Leadership), Portuguese (Toxic Workplace), Korean, Polish and Spanish (Manager’s Desktop Consultant).

Before coming to Antioch University, Dr. Kusy held a tenured position as Professor of Organization Learning & Development at the University of St. Thomas, where he designed a doctoral program in Organization Development for scholar-practitioners. Previous to this position in higher education, he directed leadership development at American Express Financial Advisors and was head of organization development for HealthPartners. Dr. Kusy was a psychotherapist specializing in individual, family, and group therapy before his work began in the corporate world.
