John Galaska, PsyD, received his BA from the University of Maryland, his MS in Education from USC, and his PsyD from California Southern University in Clinical Psychology. His thesis entitled “Neurofeedback: At the Juncture of Psychology and Physiology” received the inaugural President’s Award for Doctoral Project Excellence.
Dr. Galaska is a certified Neurofeedback Practitioner (BCIA), Hypnotherapist (NGH), and Equine Assisted Therapist (PATH). He has a private practice in Ojai, CA (BeCalmofOjai.com). He taught primary grades for eleven years, utilizing student centered, activity oriented techniques that integrated the principles of behavior management with humanistic existential ideals. Dr. Galaska is a member of the faculty teaching the MA in Clinical Psychology, Somatic Psychotherapy concentration and Somatic Psychotherapy Certificate programs.
He has extensive experience with multi-cultural students and parents, having worked for the Department of Defense Schools in both Germany and Spain. Dr. Galaska is conversational in German and fluent enough in Spanish to have been hired by the Roosevelt School District in Phoenix as a bi-lingual resource teacher and later the Oxnard School District where he worked as a bi-lingual teacher in Kdg., 1st, and 2nd grades. He believes that Dr. Alan Schore is correct in stating that we are experiencing a paradigm shift in how we view the development of the human psyche and its repair.
Dr. Galaska has immersed himself in the new science of interpersonal neurobiology (IPNB) and considers IPNB an overlay that provides an encompassing theoretical explanation of diversified therapeutic approaches. John has expertise in applied behavioral analysis and complements this with the Rogerian Techniques of Dr. Thomas Gordon’s Effectiveness Training. His practice integrates the physiological approach of neurofeedback training with hypnotherapy and mindfulness.
He gives pro bono presentations to local community college psychology classes and community organizations. He is a former US National Amateur Dressage champion at Intermediare II, and an avid alpine skier with competitive experience.
